Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Our staff has been hard at work creating social distancing and a sanitation plan for students and staff. Our plan will be posted on our website for all families to view. Please know the health and safety of our staff and students is our utmost concern. We will constantly be reevaluating our in person safety plan to address any issues that surface. We are confident that the measures we have put into place are thorough and extensive. We appreciate the support of our community as we navigate through this extremely unusual period of time.
We are so excited to continue be enjoying our newly modernized campus. Westmont is the first school to be modernized in the Ocean View School District using Measure R bond money. Our campus has gone through a thorough update with all new plumbing, heating, air conditioning, new tile, carpeting, windows, technology and furniture. We now have a beautiful dance studio, keyboarding room, large band room and maker space. Our library is state of the art with flexible seating and new technology. Students and parents alike will be amazed at all the upgrades our campus has gone through. I would encourage potential families to schedule a tour to see our beautiful new campus.
Westmont continues to be the only Visual and Performing Arts Academy in Orange County that offers an elementary band program during the school day. Students are provided with a band instrument free of charge to take home while receiving music lessons by our full time music teacher. All classes receive 30 minutes of music instruction a week in addition to keyboarding lessons for 1st - 5th grades. In addition, students receive visual arts lessons in their classroom by their specially trained classroom teacher. Dance classes are taught weekly by a dance instructor for all students, TK - 5th grades. Westmont continues to participate in the Disney Musical in Schools theater arts program offered by Segerstrom Center for the Arts. New this year is our acceptance into the Class Act partnership with the Pacific Symphony. The Class Act program works to increase awareness of and involvement with symphonic music for elementary aged students and their families. This follows Westmont's commitment to providing enriching visual and performing arts opportunities to all students.
This year promises to bring new opportunities for our students to learn and gain new skills in a rich and thriving visual and performing arts environment. We hope you are able to join us on this exciting journey.
