New Early Kindergarten Class Begins This January
Families in and around the Ocean View School District have a new school option for their children born between December 3, 2011 – March 1, 2012. The District is accepting students for an Early Kindergarten class beginning on January 3, 2017, the first day of school after the winter break. Westmont Elementary School will be the location of the new Early Kindergarten program. The school, the recent recipient of a Disney’s Musicals in Schools grant, is conveniently located on the border of Huntington Beach and Westminster at 8251 Heil Avenue.
Several Family Information Meetings are planned to allow parents and guardians to come learn about the program and ask questions of District and school leaders, as well as teachers in the program.

“We want to develop more innovative ways to educate our children, and we believe an Early Kindergarten class will give our families another important option in preparing their children for success in Kindergarten and beyond,” said Dr. Carol Hansen, Superintendent. “Early Kindergarten, which is based on the Transitional Kindergarten curriculum, helps these young students to develop the academic, social and emotional skills they will need to be successful throughout their educational experiences.”
The goals of the Early Kindergarten program are to begin teaching students, at an age-appropriate level, the essential skills needed in language and literacy, mathematics, physical development, science, visual and performing arts, health, history/social science, English language development, and social-emotional development. It is a complete program, based on state standards and aligned with the OVSD curriculum.
Enrollment for this Early Kindergarten class begins December 1 in two easy steps.
Step One - beginning December 1st– families within OVSD may begin the enrollment process by going online to https://air.ovsd.org/ to pre-enroll their child.
Step Two –Families who have completed the online pre-enrollment process may take all required paperwork and necessary documentation to Westmont to complete the enrollment process. Documents include: Documentation of Child’s Age (birth certificate, statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth, duly attested baptismal certificate or passport); Health & Immunization Records – must be submitted PRIOR to the child being placed in a classroom; and Proof of Residency – any two of the following: escrow papers, lease or rental agreement, mortgage/property tax payment, current car registration, utility bills (gas, water, electric).
For families residing outside the Ocean View School District and wish your child to attend one of our schools you will need to complete an Interdistrict Transfer Request. For this process, please obtain an Interdistrict Transfer Request from your district of residence and submit to your district of residence (should do this as soon as possible).
