OVSD Announces 2020 Classified School Employees of the Year
The Ocean View School District proudly announces its 2020 Classified School Employees of the Year. In three categories from across all schools in OVSD, these three outstanding individuals were nominated by their peers, and then selected by committee to represent the “best of the best” among Ocean View’s more than 500 classified employees. District officials, Personnel Commissioners, staff, and family members surprised the recipients at their work sites today. “These exemplary employees routinely go the extra mile in performing their jobs, and they demonstrate a dedication and commitment to children that is second-to-none,” said Dr. Carol Hansen, Superintendent of the Ocean View School District.

Office and Technical Category:
Flo Epperson, School Office Manager, College View Elementary School
Flo Epperson began her career in Ocean View 13 years ago as a School Office Clerk, before moving up to School Office Manager in 2011. Flo possesses a “can-do” attitude and always takes time with anyone who needs her attention. She manages the office with enthusiasm and a smile while showing that she genuinely cares about staff, students and the community. She is a delight to work with and is appreciated for her high level of professionalism and dedication to College View.

Maintenance, Operations and Facilities Category:
Joe Sejuit, Sprinkler Mechanic, Facilities Department
Joe Sejuit has made a significant impact in the Facilities Department for 25 years through seamlessly combining his love of all things mechanical with his passion for serving the District and community. He began as a substitute in the Maintenance Department and was hired full-time in 1995. Joe is someone that communicates positively through both his actions and his attitude. He is a respected team leader and his ability to handle a multitude of issues simultaneously sets him apart from his contemporaries.

Mailieu Thornton, Instructional Assistant, Special Education, Lake View Elementary School
Mailieu Thornton has been a bright light in OVSD since 2006 when she was hired to help severely disabled students. She works tirelessly to ensure that every student has received the individual attention they need and that they fulfill their educational goals each day. She is well-versed about each student’s special needs and her kind, compassionate, and patient manner help make her classroom a wonderful place to learn. Mailieu takes initiative, is dependable and diligent, and it is evident that she truly enjoys her job.
