Mr. Felix Avila honored as the 2019 California Personnel/Human Resources Administrator of the Year
On November 8th, Mr. Felix Avila, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, was honored as the 2019 California Personnel/Human Resources Administrator of the Year at a special awards ceremony in San Francisco. The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) selected Mr. Avila from among 265 high-quality nominations received this year as part of its annual awards program.
Superintendent Dr. Carol Hansen and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Michael Conroy accompanied Mr. Avila and his family at the awards ceremony. “We are so proud of Felix for his ongoing commitment to our employees and the collective bargaining process,” said Dr. Hansen. “His focus is ultimately on making the Ocean View School District and its schools the best possible learning environment for each child we serve.”
“I am humbled and honored by this recognition and want to give credit to my HR team for the support they provide our employees, association partners and the Ocean View educational community,” said Mr. Avila. “We recognize that our work with employees impacts student achievement, and we are committed to making OVSD the Destination District in Orange County.”
Mr. Avila has served as the District’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Chief Negotiator since 2014. During that time, he has worked closely with District and union leadership on building greater capacity in labor relations, particularly on the District’s Partnership of Administration and Labor, or PAL, efforts. He was recognized by ACSA in 2018 as its Negotiator of the Year for California.
