Over 1,500 Books Donated to Oak View Elementary

Dr. Carol Hansen with Ms. Hedy Knight of the HB Assistance League Students and staff at Oak View Elementary School were thrilled to learn that the Assistance League of Huntington Beach celebrated its “Legacy of Literacy” event by donating more than 1,500 new and slightly used books to the school on February 28, 2018. The donation coincided with the school’s annual “Read Across America” activities in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Ms. Hedy Knight, President of the HB Assistance League, which was recently recognized by the Association of California School Administrators Region 17 as a 2018 “Partner in Educational Excellence,” announced the donation with the Ocean View School District Superintendent, Dr. Carol Hansen, at a school-wide Patriotic Assembly at Oak View Elementary School.

“We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and for the volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts on behalf of our students," said Dr. Hansen, as she stood alongside several students from Mrs. Bennett's classroom.

According to the Assistance League’s Laura Syzdek, VP Philanthropic Programs. “As part of our mission to transform lives through community programs, our Huntington Beach chapter is donating 1,578 books to the students at Oak View. We are proud to be making a difference for these deserving students.”

Earlier in the week, Dr. Rosa Guerra, Oak View Principal, said, “The Assistance League’s generosity will bring a smile to our students’ faces and foster their love of reading, especially when they find out they can take home a book of their choice!”

Oak View students cheered loudly when they were told they could take home one of the many donated books from this special event!
