OCMAA Awards Three OVSD Staff Members for Their Work in Music, the Arts
What do a school principal, woodshop teacher and a music director have in common? In the Ocean View School District, these three individuals are all recipients of an Orange County Music and Arts Administrator (OCMAA) Award for 2018. Our OVSD award winners are: Westmont Elementary School Principal Sue Broderson, Mesa View Middle School music teacher Dennis Nicolosi, and Spring View Middle School industrial arts teacher John Morgan.
“We are so impressed by the commitment and passion of these three Ocean View staff members,” said Dr. Carol Hansen, Superintendent. “Sue, Dennis and John have dedicated themselves to our students and the arts programs they represent in Ocean View. They open new doors to creativity each and every day.”
Mrs. Broderson is committed to the arts and bringing its benefits to all of her students. As a collaborative and passionate school leader, Mrs. Broderson has guided the launch of her school as the area’s only Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) elementary school. Mr. Nicolosi started the middle school music program in OVSD 25 years ago, and he continues to mentor new music teachers and to provide numerous music opportunities for students throughout the District. Mr. Morgan, who brings full-year woodworking classes to Spring View Middle School, is receiving the 2018 Julianna McGrath Award, which honors those who champion arts in the classroom and across various curricula.
All OCMAA award recipients were honored last night, May 9, at a special awards dinner at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Our OVSD Board of Trustees and Dr. Hansen also recognized their accomplishments at this week’s Board meeting on May 8.
