Welcome to Ocean View School District!

  • New start times

Please be aware that OVSD will be implementing new school start times at all schools for the 2022-23 school year.

In an effort to support child health, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 328 into law in 2019. Under this new law, California’s middle schools can start required classes no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and high schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Elementary schools have no restrictions.

The law was designed to improve attendance, reduce tardiness, increase opportunities for students to get more sleep, positively impact the ability to learn, and lower the rate of depression and drop out rates.

The law was passed in 2019, and full implementation of the law by all school districts is required by July 1, 2022. Therefore, OVSD will implement new school start times at all schools for the 2022-23 school year. We adjusted our elementary start times, in addition to middle school start times, so that parents that have children in elementary and middle school have time for both drop-offs.
