Measure R Modernization Program in OVSD

Vista View Reopening

Our community demonstrated its support for the Ocean View School District by passing the District's first-ever general obligation bond in the amount of $169 million in November 2016.

We completed the modernization of Westmont Elementary in 2019, College View Elementary in 2020, Marine View Middle in 2021, Vista View Middle in 2022, and Star View Elementary is 2023.  Mesa View Middle School is currently being modernized and will reopen for the 2024-25 school year.

What You Need to Know

Measure R bond modernization is one of the most comprehensive, important facilities projects that the Ocean View School District has ever undertaken. Following passage of our bond in November 2016 thanks to the community's generous support, we committed to pursuing these projects with strict adherence to safety, the least amount of disruption to learning, efficiency and economy, maximum oversight of the construction process, and timeliness.
Keith Farrow, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, presents regularly to our Board of Trustees updated information about our Measure R modernization projects, costs, and timelines. Taking into consideration actual interim housing costs, Measure R bond cash flow, stakeholders’ input on school priority needs and architectural designs, and construction phasing, OVSD is modernizing one school each year.

Why Is Sun View Now An Interim Campus?

As of July 1, 2018, Sun View Elementary School closed. Its remaining students and staff became part of Westmont Visual and Performing Arts School, home of the Ocean View School District's VAPA program for elementary students.

Sun View, now called Ocean View's Interim Campus, serves our students and families in a new capacity as the Measure R interim housing site. It has been upgraded with modern portable buildings, restrooms, and facilities to house schools during modernization projects over the next decade.
