Local school districts in the Huntington Beach and surrounding areas are working together to create meaningful, connected learning experiences that benefit students from their earliest years through high school graduation. This collaboration was recently on display when Huntington Beach Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Carolee Ogata welcomed Fountain Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Katherine Stopp, Huntington Beach City School District Superintendent Dr. Leisa Winston, Ocean View School District Superintendent Dr. Julianne Hoefer, and Westminster School District Superintendent Dr. Gunn Marie Hansen for a visit to Westminster High School, one of seven HBUHSD campuses that serve students matriculating from these feeder elementary districts.

Over the last two months, we have had the privilege of honoring our 2026 District Classified School Employees of the Year. Congratulations to Francesca Baldelli, Administrative Assistant at the District Office; David Serrano, Head Custodian at Lake View; Fidel Jacobo Ayala, Lead Food Service Worker at Hope View; and Buu-Tram Nguyen, Parent Liaison Instructional Assistant at Star View.

It is truly an honor to share that the Ocean View School District Board of Trustees has received the Blue Door Community Partnership Award from the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington Valley. Earlier this school year, the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington Valley announced this recognition, highlighting the strength of our partnership and the meaningful impact we make together on behalf of students.

On December 9, the 67th day of school, OVSD campuses were buzzing with excitement as we celebrated a day that was equal parts meaningful and memorable. Because we know that being at school every day supports learning, growth, and academic success, we challenged our schools to a friendly Attendance Challenge with a fun twist. Instead of a typical reminder about the importance of showing up, we wanted to highlight a simple message in a big way: school is the best place to be.

On December 3, the California School Boards Association recognized Marine View for its outstanding VAPA program, an award that celebrates innovation, creativity, and impact. This is Marine View’s very first Golden Bell, and the seventh for Ocean View School District! What an amazing achievement!

Ocean View School District is proud to celebrate all 13 schools for being recognized with California PBIS Implementation Awards for 2025. These honors highlight the incredible work being done across the district to foster positive, supportive environments where students can thrive.

Ocean View School District (OVSD) will launch free after-school childcare for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade students enrolled in the District starting in the 2025–26 school year. This new service will support families by providing a safe and convenient option for students after the regular school day ends until 6:00 p.m.

At Ocean View School District, it’s the people, not just the programs, that make our schools exceptional. Behind every successful student, event, and initiative are dedicated staff and selfless volunteers working together to support our learning community. Their dedication, passion, and care create the foundation on which our students thrive.

Ocean View School District (OVSD) is proud to celebrate its partnership with the Surf City Optimist Club, a dedicated non-profit organization run entirely by passionate volunteers. Together, they work to bring joy, opportunity, and a spirit of optimism to students across the district.

In March, the Ocean View School District proudly hosted its annual District Music Festival, a vibrant celebration of student talent and artistic achievement across its middle schools. The event brought together students, families, and educators for an unforgettable evening dedicated to the performing arts.

As Ocean View School District continues to explore a new system for electing Board members, the Board of Trustees will consider, select, and approve a trustee area map during the May 13, 2025, OVSD Board of Trustees’ Meeting. Currently, under the at-large election system, all voters within the District can vote for all five Board Members. With the transition to a by-trustee area election system, beginning in November 2026, voters will elect one Trustee who resides within their designated geographic area.

March 2 marked Read Across America, a nationwide initiative celebrating and encouraging a love for reading. The Ocean View School District (OVSD) embraced this occasion with engaging activities designed to make reading fun and rewarding, reinforcing the importance of literacy year-round.

Communication in multiple languages is more than a skill—it’s a gateway to cultural understanding, academic success, and global opportunities. The Ocean View School District (OVSD) Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program at Harbour View Elementary offers students the chance to become fluent in both English and Spanish while excelling academically.

Golden View Elementary School has achieved a remarkable honor by earning the prestigious Golden Bell Award for its outstanding Environmental Science program. This recognition, presented by the California School Boards Association (CSBA), highlights Golden View’s innovative approach to education that combines civic engagement, hands-on learning, and environmental stewardship. Notably, this marks Golden View’s second Golden Bell Award and the District’s sixth overall—a testament to Ocean View School District’s commitment to excellence and innovation in education.

As we enter the season of giving, it’s a time to reflect on the power of generosity and the impact it has on our community. This season reminds us that when we come together in the spirit of giving, we can make a profound difference in the lives of others—especially in education, where every bit of support helps create opportunities for students and teachers alike.

Our preschool programs, offered at College View, Oak View, and Westmont, are grounded in the belief that learning through play is the cornerstone of early childhood development.

At Mesa View Middle School, student archers have an opportunity to learn essential skills and compete with other teams in the area, thanks to Olympic Archery in Schools (OAS). This program has introduced a unique archery league for middle schools, offering students an exciting chance to engage in the sport and excel in Olympic-style archery, thereby opening up various opportunities within the sport.

The Ocean View School District (OVSD) offers a robust after-school sports program designed to engage middle school students in physical activity, teamwork, and healthy competition. Available at Marine View, Mesa View, and Vista View Middle Schools, the program includes cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track and field, giving students the opportunity to develop their athletic skills across a variety of sports.

Vista View Middle School continually seeks innovative teachers who can tap into the needs and interests of its students. For the 2023-2024 school year, teacher Jenessa Wood started a dance program facilitated through PE standards, as well as a dance team that rehearsed after school. The dance program was created in response to student survey data in the spring of 2023, where our Falcons expressed their love for dance and their desire for a dance class at Vista View. 

Ocean View School District demonstrated its unwavering commitment to inclusivity and community spirit with the launch of its 33rd annual Special Olympics. This beloved tradition holds a special place in the hearts of the District's community.
