Superintendent's Welcome Message

  • Carol Hansen It is my honor to welcome you to the Ocean View School District, with offices located in the beautiful surf city of Huntington Beach. Our 17 schools, ranging from preschool to grade 8, are located in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Westminster, and Midway City. We serve more than 8,700 students and approximately 1,000 employees.

For those of you just joining us, I would like to share a little bit about myself. My career has focused on public education for 32 years and my enthusiasm for educating students continues to grow, particularly since coming to OVSD in 2015 as the new superintendent. Prior to that I had served in a variety of roles in public education, including as a teacher and principal, but most recently I had served in the ABC Unified School District as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

With the 2017-2018 school year under way, I am continuing my unwavering commitment to achievement for all students, innovative programs, open and transparent communication and engagement with all of our stakeholders, and consistency in District leadership. During the fall, we will continue to share with our families and community the facts regarding our Measure R priorities and upcoming projects. There is much work to be done this year, but let us also celebrate our new programs and initiatives. Westmont Elementary School recently launched its new Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Academy and elementary band program with a $50K Buchanan Music Matters Grant. In addition, we expanded our middle school afterschool program to Spring and Mesa View Middle Schools and put into action our updated Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

Again, we welcome your family and look forward to getting to know you. Stay informed through our OVSD App (download to your phone), school and District websites, and official social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and You Tube)!

    Carol Hansen, Ed.D.
