Principal's Welcome Message

    Dr. Rasheedah Gates Welcome Falcons!

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome all Vista View Falcons to the 2020-2021 school year.  I couldn't be more thrilled to be the principal of Vista View Middle School. It is my second year here and I have embraced Vista View’s supportive community and collaborative staff. There is so much to be excited about.

Admittedly, I’m most excited about getting to know each student and supporting their growth.  Students are at the heart of all we do in education, and I value the opportunity to connect with every Vista View Falcon on campus as we SOAR through the school year.

Our staff is passionate about students’ success, and I look forward to leveraging the personal and professional relationship that we build together as we focus on Project Based Learning and STEAM.

Finally, partnering with families and the community is something I am pleased to further this school year.   I have already met truly great individuals and continue to look for opportunities to unite with the communities of both Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach.

Before joining the Ocean View Family, I spent 18 years in Duarte Unified School District at Royal Oaks STEAM Academy, a K-8 school.  I spent 13 years as a teacher, three years as a teacher on special assignment (TOSA), and two years as an assistant principal.

The years I spent as a TOSA, I focused on weekly data-driven collaboration with teachers.  We used the data to create solutions that closed the achievement gap, promoted social and emotional learning, and developed creativity and innovation among students.  As an assistant principal, I focused on transformational leadership as the school site grew by over 400 students in two years (moving from a K-6 to a K-8 model).  I worked to support the needs of staff, families, and students coming to the school for a partnership with the California School of the Arts-SGV.  I greatly enjoy interacting with students at this stage of development and the staff that supported them.

Creating and maintaining relationships, developing well-balanced students, and lifelong learning are part of my core values.  My education at Azusa Pacific University helped me to frame these values.  The experiences I had in their undergraduate and graduate programs helped me understand that what we do for others matters. I look forward to this year at Vista View where I have the privilege to partner with a great community as we continue doing what matters.   Vista View Falcons, SOAR!
