Principal's Welcome Message
-
Hello to all my Mighty Eagles! It is with real excitement that I welcome all our Mesa View Eagles back to school for the 2019-2020 school year. I am quickly learning that Mesa View has an enthusiastic and collaborative community of staff and parents, and it will be my honor to serve as the Principal.
I have so enjoyed getting to know this amazing staff, and cannot wait to meet all of our Mesa View students. Students, you are the reason I come to work everyday - helping ensure all students find success and feel valued is my ultimate goal as an educator and truly encompasses all the work I do.
This staff genuinely cares about student success and truly looks at the whole student and their overall well-being. I look forward to working together with staff in a collaborative effort as we continue the work of building students’ capacity for learning and growth.
Another wonderful aspect of the Mesa View community is the community itself! This school is fortunate to have a very supportive PTSO, as well as an engaged and involved partnership with families and community members. Over the summer, we had volunteers painting basketball courts, tending to our garden, and offering support to teachers. I look forward to continuing already formed partnerships and creating new ones as we consider ways to ensure our school continues to be an integral part of the Huntington Beach culture.
Last year, I joined Ocean View School District as the Assistant Principal of Vista View Middle School and had such a wonderful experience working with their staff and getting to know all the staff at OVSD. I learned quickly that student learning is at the core of all that we do here at OVSD and that relationships truly do matter here. Prior to joining the OVSD team, I spent 13 years at Fullerton Union High School. I spent nine years as an English teacher (teaching mostly AP and IB English); in my last four years as a teacher I was also was the Activities Director. I then served as a TOSA for two years and Assistant Principal for two years.
As a TOSA, I served as the Dean of Student Services. As Assistant Principal, I worked closely with the Special Education department, the front office, Activities, Guidance, and all teachers to explore ways of increasing rigor throughout our campus. I worked closely with support staff, families, and staff to work collaboratively and in order to ensure parents felt welcomed on our campus.
I value innovation and creativity, building and maintaining positive relationships, and life-long learning. I feel my education fostered and supported these values. I attended Cypress College and CSU, Chico (playing collegiate soccer at both) and earning a BA in English. I earned my teaching credential and MA in Educational Leadership from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. When I moved to Huntington Beach, I was eager to find a District that would allow me not only to serve my community, and also one where achievement, relationships, and results matter--OVSD has certainly fit the bill. I currently live in Huntington Beach with my husband and our 2 ½ year old daughter. In free time, I enjoy spending time with family, going to Disneyland, visiting the beach, being crafty and artistic, and cheering on the Angels.
This year is going to be phenomenal, and I cannot wait to begin the good work of supporting student growth and achievement!
