    Principals Message

    Dear Westmont Families,
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I come to Westmont as the interim principal for the remainder of the 2021/22 school year. The staff, students, and families have been so welcoming that I already feel at home. I am very honored to be working with such committed and experienced teachers who are putting forth great effort to teach our children in all areas of the curriculum. The programs here at Westmont give students the opportunities to experience the joy of learning through the teaching of state standards while incorporating the visual and performing arts daily. This focus is apparent in every classroom and throughout the school environment.

I come to Westmont with 27 years of teaching experience in the Ocean View School District. I taught 1st and 4th grade at Sun View Elementary for 20 years, worked as a teacher coach for two years at the district level and then prior to this new assignment, taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade at Lake View Elementary School. My formal education includes receiving a Bachelor of Arts from California State University Long Beach in Liberal Studies/Psychology and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 1993, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Irvine in 2013, and a Preliminary Administrative Service Credential from the Orange County Deparment of Education.

Prior to beginning my adventure in public education. I worked in the textile industry and had my own dressmaking business while raising my young children. I am the proud mom of three grown adults who work in education as well as visual arts and music production. Three young grandsons round out my family; nine year old twin 3rd graders and a seven year old 2nd grader.

When not involved in teaching and being an administrator, I enjoy sewing, quilting, all types of fiber art, singing, running, hiking, gardening, and reading. I was raised in Huntington Beach and have lived there for most of my life so the beach is a definite happy place for me! I look forward to seeing all the great things that can be accomplished at Wesmont and am honored to be a part
of such a wonderful, innovative school!

    Sincerely,
    Ms. Sharon Ahlman
