Principal's Welcome Message
-
Welcome Back Harbour View Families,
The 2022-23 school year is fast approaching. I am beyond thrilled to serve as your principal for the second year. Harbour View is back in action, starting the year off strong! We are focused on academics, challenging students, and filling the gaps from the circumstances of the last few years. School climate is also an emphasis, as student social and emotional learning is a vital part of developing the whole child. Our teachers are dedicated and skilled in creating a safe and thriving learning environment for all students to succeed. Being at school consistently is crucial. If your child is healthy, we expect them to be at school. We ask that you refrain from scheduling day trips or vacations during the school week. Please look at the calendar and use the embedded vacations and 3-day weekends built in the school year. Attendance directly affects your child’s success in school.
Your child/children’s safety is of the highest priority. I am happy to share some security enhancements added this summer. You probably noticed the shiny new fence surrounding the field. Our front office doors are now equipped with an intercom and a button to electronically unlock the door. This way, the front office will be locked during the school day along with all doors on site and all visitors will be screened before entering.
We are excited to welcome back our Primary Music Teacher and bringing in a Spanish Enrichment class for our K-5th Grade students. This would not be possible without PTA’s amazing fundraising and everyone that supports us! Field Trips and assemblies are being scheduled. We will also be hosting afterschool fee-based Enrichment again each trimester. Information on afterschool programs will be forthcoming in the Sunday Messages.
Parent involvement is a major part of Harbour View. We are so excited that we are up and running to welcome volunteers at all levels. From classroom helpers, community events, family nights and schoolwide events like the Bubble Run, volunteers are an integral part of what makes Harbour View so special. If you are interested in volunteering, be sure to register with Raptor.
It is my pleasure to introduce our new PTA President, Jennifer Rank. She leads a team of dynamic parents committed to making the school year amazing for the kids and families. There are some chair positions still open on the slate. Don't hesitate to jump in at the first PTA meeting on Sept. 23rd at 8:45 in our library.
There are plenty of ways to be involved and make a difference. The School Site Council (SSC) is always open to new members. In addition, we will have an Advisory Committee for the Dual Language Program as well as form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) to represent all students at Harbour View.
We are bouncing back stronger than ever for a Really Good Year!
With Pelican Pride,Mrs. Ligman
