• Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

It is with great enthusiasm and honor that I serve the Vista View Family as the new Assistant Principal for the 2019-2020 school year. I believe that the supportive staff  will promote a positive learning environment for all students. Vista View is fully equipped to build critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication with its challenging curriculum, experienced and passionate teachers, and access to the latest technology of the STEAM program.

This will be my 8th year with the district, and have proudly served as a special education teacher and most recently as the Interim Assistant Principal at Spring View Middle School. Prior to being in the Ocean View School District, I worked as a preschool teacher in Eugene, Oregon, as an elementary teacher at Orangewood Children’s Home with displaced children, and teaching incarcerated minors at the Orange County Juvenile Hall. My experiences have taught me that all students have the ability and desire to learn with the guidance of devoted and compassionate teachers.

Personally, I was born in Busan, South Korea and immigrated to the United States so I could have the chance to be educated and experience the “American Dream”. I attended high school in Huntington Beach and graduated from the University of California, Irvine (Zot Zot), where I met my supportive husband of 25 wonderful years. I have two lovely grown daughters, Emma (20) studying in San Francisco and Alyssa (18) studying in Spain.  During my free time, I love to cook (and eat), take ballroom dance lessons, and travel around the world. My family and I are devoted fans of soccer, especially Barcelona Futbol Club.

The old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child” cannot be more true today.  Clear communication, high expectations, and supporting the whole child will guide students to become caring and productive members of our community. It is my hope that parents, staff, and students actively work together to better our school, the community, and the world in which we live. 2019-2020 is going to be great.  Let’s SOAR Falcons!

    Respectfully yours,

    Mrs. Julie Nichols
