The Ocean View School District (OVSD) offers a robust after-school sports program designed to engage middle school students in physical activity, teamwork, and healthy competition. Available at Marine View, Mesa View, and Vista View Middle Schools, the program includes cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track and field, giving students the opportunity to develop their athletic skills across a variety of sports.

For cross country and track and field, all students from grades 6 through 8 can participate. Meanwhile, volleyball and basketball teams are open to 7th and 8th graders, providing a more specialized opportunity for those interested in team sports.

The sports program runs for eight months throughout the school year, strategically spread out to allow students to participate in multiple sports if they wish. Cross country kicks off the athletic year, with practices and meets held in September and October. In November and December, volleyball season takes over, with practices, games, and a Districtwide tournament that determines the season’s champion.

As the year progresses, the focus shifts to basketball, with practices, games, and a tournament in January and February. Finally, the athletic calendar concludes in March and April with track and field, offering students the chance to compete in various events that test their speed, endurance, and agility.

Each sport culminates in a Districtwide tournament, where teams compete for championship trophies, creating an exciting conclusion to each season. These tournaments foster school spirit and camaraderie among students, parents, and staff, while celebrating the hard work and achievements of student-athletes.

The OVSD middle school sports program not only promotes physical fitness, but also teaches important life lessons, such as teamwork, perseverance, and goal setting, helping students develop both on and off the field.
