Jack C. Souders - Board Vice President

Jack C. Souders was first elected to the OVSD Board of Trustees on November 2, 2014. He was recently voted President of the Board and has previously served as President, Vice President, and Clerk of the Board. Trustee Souders is an educator. He began his teaching career in 2000 in the Long Beach Unified School District. His first years were at Star King Edison, a charter school, where he taught the 4th and 5th grades. In 2004, he transferred to McKinley where he taught 4th grade. Since that time, he has been at Tincher Preparatory, a K-8 school on the east side of Long Beach. He has taught not only the elementary grades, but also 6th grade science, 7th grade science, art and Spanish, and 8th grade English and Spanish. As part of his work, he participates in efforts to help teachers better understand the state’s new common core standards for the teaching profession.

Trustee Souders holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with an emphasis in Second Language Acquisition, a Multiple Subjects Credential, and is highly qualified in science, art and Spanish.

An active participant in the Ocean View School District for over 20 years, his three children have all attended OVSD schools in their academic career.  Trustee Souders uses his professional teaching experiences to help him understand the needs of students, parents, staff, and the OVSD community-at-large.

His term ends in December 2026.
