Board Member Election

Ocean View School District (OVSD) is considering a new system for electing Board Members. Currently, under the “At-Large election” system, all voters within District boundaries can vote for all five Board Members. With the transition to “By-Trustee Area elections,” voters will elect one Trustee whose home address is within the same designated geographic area as the voter.

While this shift changes how Board Members are elected, it will not affect:

  • School boundaries
  • School services, programs, and resources
  • OVSD’s commitment to providing educational excellence

At the Board of Trustees' meeting on January 28, a public hearing was held to receive community input regarding the composition of trustee area maps. A second public hearing will be held at the Board of Trustees' Meeting on Tuesday, February 25. We encourage all community members to attend the upcoming Board Meeting on February 25, or watch it online HERE. This will be another opportunity to provide input on the map’s development.

If you are unable to attend, please fill out the community input form to share your thoughts. Your voice is essential as we work to ensure a smooth and transparent transition.
