The Raptor System: Visitor/Volunteer Management

  • Raptor is a visitor/volunteer management system, which enhances school security through database screening and printing of photo identification badges for all visitors/volunteers in our schools. ID badges must be worn at all times on our campuses. Additionally, Raptor allows our District to maintain a database of all visitors and volunteers. Our Volunteer Policy, including our process for fingerprinting and clearing all volunteers, will remain in place with Raptor.

    Instant Screening Process:  The Raptor System ensures that all visitors and volunteers to a school campus are instantly screened against the registered sex offender databases in all 50 states.

    Custom Databases:  Raptor can check visitors against a school's custom database to ensure safety alerts are managed for school staff.

    Efficient Reporting:  The system can also create quick and easy reports for schools, or the entire school district, which can help with tracking volunteer hours.

    Trusted Protection:  The Raptor System is used in our neighboring districts and in Orange County and beyond. It is trusted by more K-12 schools to protect students, teachers and support staff than every other system combined.

    New Raptor Visitor/Volunteer Management System in All OVSD Schools

    In an effort to strengthen campus safety at all of our schools, Ocean View School District (OVSD) will begin using the Raptor Visitor/Volunteer Management System. Raptor will allow us to better screen all of our visitors on campus.

    Upon entering any OVSD school, visitors will be asked to present government-issued identification with a barcode, such as a driver’s license, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent/guardian, for any reason, does not have this type of ID, school staff is able to use alternate forms of ID and manually enter the visitor’s information into the Raptor system. Raptor will also check to ensure that registered sex offenders are not entering our school campuses without our knowledge for improved student safety.

    For those of you who generously volunteer your time on our campuses, OVSD will continue to adhere to its Volunteer Policy. OVSD school volunteers will receive a Raptor badge each time they are on campus. More information about the use of the Raptor system for volunteers is coming soon. You may also wish to check our District and school websites for further information later this month.

    We recognize that privacy and confidentiality are important to our visitors, which is why we want to emphasize that the Raptor system only checks the visitor’s name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by Raptor. No other data from the identification card is gathered or recorded. Information is not shared with any outside agency.

    Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. A visitor’s badge is not necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off or pick up items in the front office.

    The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and the Raptor system allows us to quickly identify visitors that may present a danger to our students.
