Visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for information. The web page gives information on they types of credentials and the requirements needed to obtain such credentials.

To teach in our District, you must have a teaching credential or an Emergency 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit. Fingerprints must be cleared by the Orange County Department of Education prior to employment.

You must have a BA degree and have passed the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST). Call the Orange County Department of Education for information about the Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit and fingerprint clearance. You can contact them at: 714 966-4306.

You must apply for your renewal at least 6 months prior to your credential expiration date.  Credentials must be renewed on the CTC website at www.ctc.ca.gov. For instructions on how to renew your credential please click here.

A teacher with a multiple subject credential must take the CSET - multiple subject test.  A teacher with a single subject credential must take the CSET in the single subject area of your credential.

California requires that you must demonstrate proficiency in basic reading, writing and mathematics skills in English by passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). You must take the CBEST if any of the following conditions apply to you:
• You are applying for a first teaching credential or service credential.
• You are applying for the issuance or renewal of an Emergency Permit.
If you have not taught during the prior 39 months, regardless of the credential you hold.
You are applying for admission to a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved teacher preparation program.

Certificated and Classified employees will receive a paid leave of absence for the entire period of jury duty service.
