Nestled in the picturesque city of Huntington Beach, the Ocean View School District (OVSD) offers an award-winning educational journey that spans from transitional kindergarten to eighth grade. With an unwavering commitment to innovation, safety, communication, exceptional staff, and positive interactions, the District sets the stage for an enriched learning experience that empowers students to become lifelong learners.
EARLY ENROLLMENT
OVSD opens doors to education from an early age, allowing parents with children aged four by September 1 to take advantage of early enrollment in transitional kindergarten. This program is defined as the first year of a two-year kindergarten program and focuses on the process of learning, which means helping students develop the skills required of effective learners.
INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
Going beyond conventional education, OVSD offers a diverse selection of innovative programs that stimulate curiosity and create unique learning experiences. The Environmental Science program, enriched by access to a 2.5-acre farm, allows students to immerse themselves in hands-on experiences in agricultural and environmental sciences, fostering a deep connection with the natural world.
The Spanish Dual Language Immersion program provides the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate in both Spanish and English. Students develop high levels of language proficiency and literacy in both languages, while preparing to become global citizens in a multilingual/multicultural environment.
The District also supports a Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA) program that spans from elementary to middle school. Encompassing four disciplines - visual arts, dance, theater, and music (vocal and instrumental) - this program allows students to explore and develop their artistic talents.
Understanding each student is unique, possessing individual interests and strengths, the District also offers Gifted and Talented Education (GATE); Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics (STEAM); and Marine Science programs. These initiatives aim to unlock each student’s fullest potential across various subjects, creating a dynamic and comprehensive learning experience.
ACCELERATED MIDDLE SCHOOL
OVSD recognizes the importance of preparing students for the challenges of high school and beyond. Middle school students are provided with the unique opportunity to finish Algebra I and Geometry before entering high school. Additionally, eighth graders can enroll in Spanish 1, and upon successfully completing the course, they can advance to Spanish 2 as a high school freshman. Both of these opportunities enable students to navigate advanced coursework with confidence.
COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
From early enrollment opportunities and accelerated middle school programs to a wide array of innovative programs, the District is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive education. The District’s commitment extends beyond academic excellence, creating positive, inclusive classroom environments where students thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Ocean View School District is where students embark on a transformative journey towards a future of lifelong learning and success.
