Welcome to Ocean View School District

Superintendent Alan G. Rasmussen, Ed. D.

STATE OF THE DISTRICT REPORT - 2007/08

I am excited to share with you the plans that are underway to preserve and maintain our facilities across the District so they may continue to effectively serve the needs of our children and the local community.

Early this school year, the Board of Trustees began a multi-step process of assessing all our school sites, both open and closed. To facilitate this task, the Board engaged the services of BCA Architects, who thoroughly assessed the condition of each District site. This was perhaps the most comprehensive assessment conducted of our facilities to date. Building interiors, exteriors, electrical, and plumbing systems were systematically inspected, the results of which were presented to the Board in December.

The next phase in our facilities assessment will include a prioritization of repair and improvement needs. Potential health and safety concerns will be designated as first priority. Necessary repairs to preserve our assets and maintain the structural integrity of our buildings will be considered for action as second priority. Finally, third priority improvements will be those that would enhance the quality and expand the use of our existing facilities.

In January, the Board began closely examining these priorities, exploring associated costs, and identifying funding sources to address areas of need. BCA and Ocean View School District will actively pursue matching state funds to support required projects.

The Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring all our sites are properly maintained in order to meet state and federal compliance standards and to ensure the health, safety, and education of our students. Additionally, the Board of Trustees is steadfast in maintaining open space for community use at all our sites while leasing closed sites to generate needed revenue for our District.
